Adoption Info

At the Humane Society Adoption Center of Monroe, we currently offer 2 other optional programs to help our pets get adopted besides our typical adoption as detailed below:
| Adopting A Dog
Are you ready to take home the most loyal friend that a person could have and receive tons of unconditional love in return? If so, then perhaps you are ready to go ahead and adopt one of our furry residents and give them the home that they so desperately need. Here are our adoption guidelines:
- All dogs available for adoption already have had their 7-in-1 vaccinations, are dewormed, and will be spayed/neutered right before adoption.
- For puppies too young to be spayed or neutered, we will setup an appointment for you to have this done with a conveniently located veterinarian that participates in our spay/neuter program. You incur no cost for this, and it is required by Louisiana state law.
- Our fee is $80.00 and is payable by cash, check, or money order and is used to cover the cost of the above.
- You must be 18 years of age and have a valid driver's license. We copy the license at the time of adoption.
- You must take the dog to the veterinarian of your choice within 72 hours of adoption for a complete check-up. We will be happy to recommend one to you based on location, and we do a follow up to make sure this is done.
- In the case of certain dogs, application may be subject to approval.
For some useful advice on adopting a pet, we encourage you to check out these tips from the ASPCA and the HSUS.

Foster Program
Are you desiring to have a dog but not sure that it would be the right thing for you? If so, consider opting for our Foster Program whereby you simply pick out the dog that you would like to do a "trial adoption" for 7 days. If at any time during that span, you decide that you would like to adopt that dog, then you may proceed on to officially adopting the dog, however if you find that taking care of a dog is not right for you or that this dog is simply not working out for you, then all you have to do is bring back the friendly pooch. This way, we can all be sure that this adoption arrangement will work out for all parties involved, especially the one in need of a good home.

Adoption Option
There are probably a lot of you out there wishing you could help, but knowing you can't adopt a dog right now. Not to worry, there is a program just for you at the HSAC that we call the Adoption Option. You simply pick out a dog or even a group of dogs and spend some time helping them at the shelter. It costs you nothing but your time, and you can have some of the benefits of having a pet of your own. We appreciate it and so will your new furry friends!
- The adoption option allows you or your organization to adopt a pet of your choice while it lives at the shelter.
- The idea is for you to spend some time with your adopted pet, be responsible for its needs, like grooming and socializing it, and even taking it out for day trips.
- You receive unconditional love and gratitude, as well as helping your adopted pet with its socialization, preparing it for future adoption.
